We go past them every day, we tread on them or we walk under them without seeing them. But they see us pass by, the neon sign on the façade of an old cinema closed for repairs, the traced etching in the broken glass of a defunct shop, humble mosaics hidden by mould at the entrance of a ruined building, rusty metal in the portico of a once noble building now humbled. They are a showcase of calligraphy, eras, styles and materials. Witness... silent?... to the city’s history, to the old names of its residences, hotels, businesses and theaters.
